The Ionia Weekly Standard, Friday, August 13, 1915
Samuel Gibbs, aged 83 years, died at his home in Portland Monday afternoon 
after an illness of several months.  Mr. Gibbs was a pioneer resident of the 
county, having lived on a farm four miles from Portland for many years.  He 
leaves a widow and two children, Frank of Oklahoma, and Mrs. Lena Sprague of 
California, and two brothers, William and John Gibbs of Portland, and a sister 
in Dakota.  Burial on Wednesday.
