Was at One Time Local Agent for the Grand Trunk Railroad and Employed for Many Years by T. S. Barringer. Word was received last night by Miss Mabel Gibson of the sudden death of her father, Thomas Gibson in Chicago. No particulars were received but it was thought by Mr. Gibson’s daughter that the death had resulted from heart failure probably while he had been at work. He was employed at Marshall Field’s as bookkeeper for many years going there from Sears, Roebuck & Co., where he held a like position. Mr. Gibson was born in England 67 years ago and came to this country about 40 years ago. He lived in Detroit before coming to Ionia where he was sent as agent by the Grand Trunk railroad for whom he worked for many years. After leaving the Grand Trunk he was employed for about 15 years by T.S. Barringer. He left Ionia for Chicago about 20 years ago. Three daughters survive, Mrs. H. E. Spencer and Miss Mabel Gibson of Ionia and Miss Blanche Gibson of Moline, Ill., and a widow in Chicago, who is afflicted with locomotor ataxia and will be unable to come to Ionia for the funeral which it is expected will be held here. H.E. Spencer went to Chicago last evening. Mr. Gibson was a musician of much ability and when a young man graduated from a London musical college. However he never followed music after graduating as a profession. ---- A telegram received this afternoon from H.E. Spencer says that Mr. Gibson died five minutes after going to work Monday morning, and that he will leave for Ionia on the evening train tonight. ---- The remains of T.C. Gibson arrived in Ionia this morning from Chicago where he died Monday morning a little after eight o’clock and were taken to the home of his daughter, Mrs. H.E. Spencer, 117 Lafayette street, where the funeral will be attended at 10 o’clock tomorrow morning. Interment in Highland Park cemetery. Friends can view the remains until that hour. Mr. Gibson’s death was without warning to anyone except himself. He had been for a year or more suffering from organic heart trouble. He went to his desk as usual at 8 o’clock, Monday morning, spoke jovially with Mr. Miller who worked near him and at whose home he lived, and both turned to their duties. A moment or two later Miller’s attention was called to the fact that Mr. Gibson had fallen to the floor. He was found to have passed away without a struggle. The remains were accompanied here by Miss Blanche Gibson and Mr. Spencer who met her in Chicago.
