Giddings Had Occurred Some Time Sunday; Body Discovered Monday Afternoon. The body of Frank D. Giddings was discovered about 2 o’clock Monday afternoon seated in a chair in the kitchen of the Knights of Pythias hall, 327 ˝ West Main street. The kitchen and the hall were filled with escaping gas and four burners of a gas stove in front of which the body peacefully reposed in a chair were turned on. Sheriff William Franch and Coroner B. J. Boynton forced their way into the hall after Sheriff Franch had found the lower hallway filled with gas, and discovered Mr. Giddings when they opened the door into the small kitchen. Coroner Boynton declared that no inquest would be held accepting the evidence that it was suicide. Mr. Giddings, who had been in frail health for a number of years, is said to have been worried over his physical condition. Sheriff Franch and deputies had sought for Mr. Giddings quietly since Sunday when he did not return home after going to his clothing store about 8:30 in the morning. He did not attend services at the Presbyterian church as usual nor did he return home Sunday night. Mr. Giddings came to Ionia from Lansing in 1903? and for a number of years was connected with Thomas A. Carten in the Carten stores. He resigned his position there to go into the clothing business as a partner with William J. Winchell in the firm of Winchell & Giddings. When the firm dissolved partnership several years ago, Mr. Giddings became associated with Ionia business men as one of the active managers of the Ionia Credit exchange, with which he was connected for some time, leaving to re-enter the clothing business for himself, when he purchased the business and stock of Winchell and Kieft, and succeeded them. Mr. Giddings had always been active in all civic affairs and took a prominent part in the various associations of business men which have worked for the advancement of the city. He was always a booster for Ionia and had devoted much time and energy to its affairs, and could always be depended upon to do his part and more toward any activity in which his co-operation was needed. He was a member of long standing of Lucullus lodge, Knights of Pythias, in which he had long served as an officer. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock at the Presbyterian church.
