The Ionia Standard, Friday, August 6, 1909

Mrs. Sophia Gierman, aged 83 years, died on Thursday, July 29, of old age, at 
the home of Charles Gierman in Sebewa, where she has resided since the death 
of her husband, Frederick Gierman, in 1905.  Mrs. Gierman came to Ionia in 
1867 and has resided in the county continuously since that time.  

The funeral was attended from the German Lutheran church at Ionia at 1 o’clock 
Saturday.  The bearers were Henry and Wm. Woodrich, Fred Hess and Chas. Holz.  
Interment in Highland Park.  The surviving members of the family are Chas. G. 
Gierman, a son, of Sebewa, and Mabel Witzel, a granddaughter, of Ionia.
