Gierman, 68, of 1111 Tupper Lake Street, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning following surgery at Veterans Administration hospital in Ann Arbor. He was a patient about a week. A lifelong resident of the area, he was born July 21, 1896 in Sebewa Township, the son of Charles and Christina Clager Gierman, and was married at Sunfield March 23, 1920 to Martha France. They spent most of their married life on the Sebewa farm until moving to Lake Odessa 16 years ago. After Mr. Gierman retired from farming he was employed as bus driver and custodian for Lake Odessa school system about 10 years retiring from there five years ago. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of LaVerne Demaray Post, American Legion of Lake Odessa. He was also a member of Sunfield Church of the Brethren. Survivors include his wife, Martha; a son, Maynard of Ionia; two daughters, Mrs. T.A. Cominetto of Midland Park, N.J., and Mrs. Terry Ripmaster of Kalamazoo; a sister, Mrs. Clarence Sayer of Sebewa; two brothers, Robert Gierman of Sebewa and Elmer of Ionia; also seven grandchildren. A daughter, Bethel Jean died December 7, 1923. Funeral service will be at Pickens funeral chapel Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with burial at Sunfield Cemetery. The Rev. Harley Townsend of Nashville will officiate.
