Mrs. Mary A. Gierman, 86, of 620 North Jefferson, died Sunday afternoon at 
Ionia Manor following a long illness.

Born February 22, 1888, in Lansing she was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest 
Kowalk and attended Lansing public schools and Lansing business university. She 
was formerly employed  in the office of Robinson Carrier Laboratories in 
Lansing and later was also employed by Michigan Bell.

She married William Gierman on February 9, 1914, at St. Mary's church in 
Lansing. the couple moved to Ionia in March 1915, where she made her home 
since.

Mrs. Gierman at 36 preceded her in death January 16, 1929 following a railroad 
accident when he was as engineer for Pere Marquette railroad.

Mrs. Gierman was a lifelong member of Emanuel Lutheran church in Lansing and 
St. Johns Lutheran church of Ionia. She was also a member of St. Johns Ladies 
Aid and a charter member of Lutheran Ladies auxiliary.

Among surviving relatives are a daughter Pauline at home, a son Jack of Grosse 
Pointe, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Martha Skusa of Howell.

Services will be at 3 pm August 29, from St. John's Lutheran church on North 
Jefferson. Rev. A.R. Gallert officiating.

Friends and relatives may pay their respects at Leddick funeral home from 
7:30 pm to 9 pm Monday, and from 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm Tuesday.

A memorial fund has been established for Valparaiso University and 
contributions may be left at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Balcom cemetery.
