Gierman LAKELAND FLORIDA - George E. Gierman, age 51, of Lakeland,Florida, passed away Friday, October 3, 1997. Mr. Gierman was born on March 24, 1946 in Portland, the son of Wilbur and Marcella (Heintzleman) Gierman. He was married to Adrienne Wilcox on February 1, 1969 in Lansing. Mr.Gierman was raised in the rural Portland and Sunfield area.He graduated from Lake Odessa High School in 1964.George received a Bachelor's Degree in Social Science and History from Spring Arbor College in Michigan. He was an Ordained Minister and member of the West Michigan United Methodist Conference. He held a Masters of Divinity Degree from Garret Evangelical Seminary in Evanston, Illinois. George served as assistant pastor at Mr.Hope U.M.C. in Lansing, and was pastor at the Mancelona-Alba U.M.C. and the Lawrence U.M.C. In 1979 he and his family moved to Lakeland,Florida and became members of the United Methodist Temple in Lakeland, where he assisted inn giving Holy Communion, and taught Adult Sunday School Class and headed the church's Council on Ministries.He also counseled and worked with children from broken homes."His whole life was a caring ministry", said his pastor,Reverend Paul Bauer. George loved fly fishing, painting and drawing. He was a member of the Lakeland Arts Guild and had served as treasurer for the past four years.Some of his paintings have been hung at the Lakeland City Hall and the Polk Museum of Art in Florida. George worked for the State of Florida for more than fifteen years, first in Child Support and as a Delinquency Case Management Supervisor for the Juvenile Justice Department in Bartow, for the past six years. He is survived by his wife, Adrienne; one son, Ryan George; two daughters, Jacqueline (Todd) Holm and Kristen Lynch; two grandchildren,Mitchell and Madison Holm all of Lakeland; his parents, Wilbur and Marcella Gierman of Portland; one brother, Eric(Lorri)Gierman of Jenison; two sisters,Cheryll Warren of Ovid and Janet (Leon) Rudd of Ionia; several nieces and nephews. Services were held on Tuesday, October 7,1997 at the United Methodist Temple of Lakeland.Interment took place at Oak Hill Burial Park in Lakeland. A Memorial service will be held later at the Sebewa Center United Methodist Church.
