Gilbert, age 93, formerly of Greenville, died Thursday, March 24, 2005 at St. Mary’s Health Center Grand Rapids. She was born in Ionia on Aug. 17, 1911, the daughter of Lewis W. and Lillian C. Older Sampson. Olive was a member of Greenville First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Esther Circle, Church Women United and was a former deaconess at Mount Hope Presbyterian Church in Lansing. She was a resident of Clark Retirement Community for the past six years. She was preceded in death by husbands, Carl A. Wallen in 1945, Walter C. Gilbert in 1981; brothers, Frank, Eugene and Virgil Sampson; and sister, Ola Mulnix. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Kathleen and Ray Simcox of Alma, Karen and Howard Dilsworth, Denise Arrequin all of Lansing, Roy and Sandy Burr of Midland, Gary Wallen of Grand Rapids; sister-in-law, Luella Wallen of Grand Rapids; and many other nieces and nephews. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday at Greenville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Harry R. Johnson officiating. Burial is in Evergreen Cemetery, Lansing. Visitation is 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services Monday. Memorial contributions may be given to First United Methodist Church, 203 W. Cass St., Greenville. A Memorial Service is also 10 a.m. Thursday, at Clark Retirement Community. Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, is serving the family.
