He was born on May 1, 1929 in Lansing to Owen G. Gilbert and Vernie (Laningham). Jerry graduated from Portland High School in 1948. Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather great-grandfather and great- great grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Judy Teller (Gilbert); daughters Karen (Ken) Oesch, Nancy (Gordon) Cannon, and Marilyn (Kyle) Goodemoot, Jennifer Teller (Steve) and son-in-law, Steve Buche and Jerry is also survived by 10 grandchildren; Keith (Clayton) Cannon, Mark Oesch(Andrew Goerge),Nikki Charriere, Jim (Jami) Oesch, Kerry (Jason)McConnell,. Lance (Kristen) Goodemoot, Lea (Chad) Osborne, Linsey (Darrell) Dykhouse, Jessica Buche, Emily (Andy) Spitzley; and three grandchildren by marriage; Isabel. Lauren snd Noah Felton; 25 great- grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Janet (Sandborn) Gilbert; daughter, Peggy Buche; and great-grandson, Joshua Harold. Gerald enjoyed spending his winters fishing in south Texas, hunting, and restoring antique Oliver tractors. He always enjoyed a good game of Euchre. He worked as a Timsmith for Oldsmobile for 30 years; sold seed for Amcorn, Cornbelt, and Stuart's Seed for a decade; and farmed for more than 60 years. He was a life-long member of the Sunfield United Methodist Church serving his church, community and God as a youth leader, Sunday school teacher, layman and trustee. Jerry was devoted to his family, leading them with great pride and integrity. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. A Celebration of Gerald's life was held Thursday, July 22, 2022 at Sunfield United Methodist Church. Following this service, interment was in the East Sebewa Cemetery. A luncheon was provided at Sunfield United Methodist Church. The pallbearers were Mark Oesch, Andrew George, Lance Goodemoot, James Oesch, Andrew Spitzley, Darrell Dykehouse, Jason McConnell and Chad Osborne. Honorary pallbearer was Noah Felton. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Lake Odessa Little League, Ionia County Dolly Parton Imagination Library and the Sunfield United Methodist Church.
