Died, after a brief illness of eight days in North Boston, Sept. 2, 1884, Mrs. M. A. Gilbert, in her 84th year. Mother Gilbert, as she was called, was born in the state of Vermont in 1801. She moved to Genesee, N.Y. at the age of thirty. She was married to David Gilbert at the age of 40, they remaining in N.Y. State a few years and then emigrated to Michigan where she has resided for 38 years. She experienced religion at the early age of fifteen years, and became an active member of the M.E. church. Her voice will be missed in the prayer circle, yet our loss is her gain. Of her it may be said, she hath done what she could. And now for her the silent oar But parts the silent river, And she stands upon the shore Of the strange forever. There she meets the loved and known, Close beside the dazzling throne. The funeral services were held at the M.E. Church, in So. Boston, preaching by Rev. Jas. Roberts, from Isaiah 64th chapter, 6th verse. “We all do fade as a leaf.” File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/g/gilbert7454gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/mifiles/ File size: 1.6 Kb
