Lowell Ledger, 21 Jul 1938

Melvin C. Gilbert, youngest child of Horace and Malvina Jones Gilbert, was born
January 16, 1858 on the farm where he died Saturday, July 16 in South Boston-tp.
 He was married to Blanche Coles December 13, 1888.  To them was born one
daughter who passed away May 21, 1910.  Mr. Gilbert gave up farming nine years
ago when his health began to fail and a part of the time each year since has
been spent at the home of a nephew in Detroit.  He was seriously ill only a part
of the time during the last year.  He was the last one of his father’s family to
pass away.  He is survived by his wife, a number of nieces and nephews and a
large circle of friends to mourn their loss.  Funeral services were held at the
home Monday afternoon.
