Ionia Sentinel – 28 January 1963
Funeral service will be held at Huffman funeral home in Belding Wednesday at 2 
pm for Henry W. Gildemeister, 85, who died at 9:30 pm Sunday at Ionia 
hospital.  For the past two years he had lived in Ionia at the home of his 
daughter, Mrs. Glenn Piper, 616 Bagley Street.  Mr. Gildemeister was born in 
Belding, August 12, 1877, and for 40 years operated a grocery store there.  He 
was also custodian at Belding city hall 17 years and during that time was 
driver of a Belding fire truck.

He was a member of Central Methodist church and September 24, 1902 was married 
to Josie Presley.  She died in 1961.  Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. 
Glenn Piper of Ionia, Mrs. Harry Durling of Vernon, and Mrs. Milton Mosier of 
Grandville; one son, Keith Gildemeister of Tecoma, Wash.;  13 grandchildren 
and 13 great-grandchildren.  The Rev. Ralph Dean of Belding, Central Methodist 
church will officiate and burial will be at River Ridge Cemetery.
