Gilden, 86, of 407 Lincoln, were conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at the Neller funeral home at Portland. Rev. Ronald Lahr officiated. Mr. Gilden died Friday at St. Lawrence hospital at Lansing. He was born February 23, 1890, the son of Charles H. and Arvella Francis Gilden. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, and a niece. A member of the Portland Congregational church he also belonged to the Portland Blue lodge F. and A.M., Portland chapter of R and SM and R and AM; Ionia Commandary Knights Templar and the Saladin Temple Shrine of Grand Rapids. He was a member of the Portland village commission and village clerk 23 years; past village president and was employed by the Portland Webber State Savings Bank as cashier until the early 1930’s. He worked for the government in the department of Agriculture during World War II in the war foods and rehabilitation. He then worked for the internal revenue service and retired after 25 years service as vice-president of loan closing office at the Capitol Savings and Loan in Lansing. Burial will be at the Portland cemetery. Bearers are Robert Clark, Richard Dawdy, James Manley, Joseph Crosby, Jr., William and Cleo Pennington.
