June 11, 2008 RICHARD "RICK" GILLETTE Richard "Rick" Gillette, 59, of Ithaca and formerly of Lake Odessa, went home to his Heavenly Father, June 8, 2008 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 20, 1948 in Detroit to Harold and Marian Gillette. Rick was a 1966 graduate of Lakewood High School in Lake Odessa. After a successful career in agricultural sales, he relocated to Ithaca and opened Gillette Farm Service in 1984. Most recently he was employed with Capital Equipment Sales & Service in DeWitt as a sales representative.He also worked at the Ionia Sentinel-Standard as a sales representative.He was a member and past Master of the Ithaca Free and Accepted Mason Lodge #123. He had also been active in the Ithaca Lions Club and the Ithaca Chamber of Commerce.He was a member of St.Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Rich's greatest joys were camping with his family and playing with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Darlene; mother Marian Gillette of Lake Odessa; children Jennie (Jeff) Bovee of Sun Prairie, Wis., Dan Ranville of Berkley, Erin Ranville of Ionia and Lisa(Pete)Chenard of Traverse City; siblings Harold Gillette of Ionia and Cindy Gillette, Patty Schoonmaker and Mary Gillette of Ionia; grandchildren, Jessie, Jacie and Josie Bovee, Brett and Alissa Kingsbury and Peter Chenard and many nieces and nephews, but special thanks to Chris Schoonmaker for his love and these last few months. He was preceded in death by his father Harold and granddaughter MacKenzie Kay- Marie Ranville. A prayer service will be held at Barden's Funeral Home in Ithaca a 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 followed by visitation with family from 5-8 p.m. Funeral mass will be held Thursday,June 12, 2008 at St.Edward's Catholic Church in Lake Odessa at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Lakeside Cemetery in Lake Odessa.Memorial contributions ma be made in Rick's name to the Gratiot County Pardee cancer fund.
