Gilliland, 79, of 941 Comfort St., Lansing, formerly of Woodland, died May 17 at St. Lawrence Hospital in Lansing. She was born Oct. 16, 1901 in Woodland township, the daughter of Frank and Laura (Tischer) Short. She attended Tamarack and Lake Odessa schools. She moved from Woodland to Lansing in 1919. She was employed at Oldsmobile and Fisher Body for 39 1/2 years. She retired in 1958. She attended the Presbyterian Church in Lansing. She married Kari Gilliland May 19, 1953. He preceded her in death in April 26, 1960. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Ruth Tasker of Lake Odessa; one brother, Terrence Short of Lansing; a niece, Mrs. Von Geiger of Lake Odessa; four sister-in-laws, Mrs. Evelyn Short of Lake Odessa, Mrs. Bertha Short of Newark, Ohio, Mrs. Margaret Gardner of Forida, and Mrs. Doris Collier of Kalamazoo; four brothers- in-law, Wayne Gilliland of Ionia, Tom Gilliland of Freeport, George Gilliland of Kalamazoo and Charles Gilliland of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; four great nephews, one great-niece and one great-great-nephew. One brother, Richard Short, died in 1975. Services will be held today at 1:30 p.m. in the Pickens-Koops Funeral Home in Lake Odessa with the Rev. Bill Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
