He came here from Grand Rapids with his parents, Bert and Elsie Gilliland and spent his earl life here, moving to Lansing 17 years ago. Karl was employed as a meat cutter for a number of years and was also an exterior and interior decorator. He was secretary treasurer fo the Food Handlers bowling league. Surviving are is wife, the former Thelma Short Shoemaker; his mother Mrs.Elsie Gilliland, Lake Odessa; four brothers, Charles of Harrisburg, Pa., George of Kalamazoo, Wayne of Ionia and Thomas of Lake Odessa; three sisters, Mrs.Ernest (Margaret) Burt of Halladay Lake, Mrs. Plynn (Doris) Collier and Mrs. Raymond (Mary) Cowels, both of Kalamazoo, nieces and nephews. Mr. Gilliland reposed at the Gorsline-Runciman funeral home at Lansing until Thursday morning then will be brought to the Pickens Funeral Chapel where funeral service. will be held Friday at 2 PM. Burial in Lakeside Cemetery.
