Bennett lib@dogsbark.com June 4, 2010, 10:15 am Ionia Sentinel Standard GILLILAND, LESTER: IONIA SENTINEL-STANDARD, MI; August 30, 1926, front page: "Prominent Berlin Farmer Dies Sunday of Heart Disease - Lester Gilliand, 77, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Herbert McLellen, in Berlin township early Sunday morning following an illness of heart trouble. Mr. Gilliand was born in Berlin township and spent his life continuously in Orange and Berlin townships. Two daughters, Mrs. McLellen, of Berlin, and Mrs. Samuel Lovrien, of South Ionia; a sister, Mrs. Rebecca Stone, and a brother, Erastus, of Grand Rapids, survive. The funeral services will be held from the home of Mrs. McLellen Tuesday, with Rev. John Young in charge. Burial will be in Balcom cemetery." THE IONIA DAILY SENTINEL-STANDARD, MI; September 1, 1926, page 3: "City News - The funeral service for Lester Gilland was attended by a large group of old friends at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bert McLellen, Tuesday. Rev. John Youngs was in charge of the services and the music provided by Mrs. Fred Parr and Mrs. Peter Gallagher. The bearers were Joseph Weston, Emery Gilland, Fred Stone, and Forrest McLellen. Interment was in the Balcom cemetery."
