Sentinel-Std. - Thursday, Oct. 14, 1934

Angus M. Gillis, 83, died Wednesday morning about 8 o'clock at his home, 328 
Baldie street, following a long illness. Mrs. Gillis had retired three years 
ago as an employee of the reformatory and had been in failing health since 
then.

He was born in Ontario, Canada, October 15, 1851, and he was married November 
18, 1878. After residing in Canada for a few years, Mr. and Mrs. Gillis came to 
Michigan locating in Huron county. ;They came to Ionia from Huron county in 
1889. Mr. Gillis was superintendent of the Sorosis Garment factory for 36 years 
and from 1824 to 1931 was employed at the Michigan reformatory. Surviving are 
the widow, and one brother, John Gillis, of Grand Rapids.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock from SS. Peter and 
Paul church with the Solemn High Mass. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet 
cemetery.
