George R. Gillson, 79, of Muir, passed away Friday, Jan. 17, 2003.  He was 
born Oct. 9, 1923, in Muir, the son of Clyde and Hazel Gillson.  George 
married Doris Wheeler Feb. 12, 1943 in Ionia.

George worked for Mitchell-Bentley in Ionia for 20 years as well as being a 
dairy farmer until he retired in 1989.  He served in the U.S. Army overseas in 
England and France.  He has been a life long member of the American Legion, 
V.F.W., and Disabled Veterans.

He is survived by his wife Doris Gillson of Muir; children Dave and Donna 
Gillson of Orleans, Craig and Starr Gillson of Sheridan; grandchildren Mike, 
Mark, Jennifer, David, Stefanie, Garet, Stacy, Kendra, Chris, Liz and seven 
great-grandchildren; sister Bea Raven of Florida; sister-in-law Bernice 
Gillson of Sheridan and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by 
his parents Clyde and Hazel, his brother Archie and sister Mamie Elliott.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Lake Funeral Home in Muir 
with Rev. Ken Harger officiating.  In lieu of flowers, you may make a memorial 
contribution to the American Legion of Hubbardston.
