Ira Gilmore Lived In Lyons Over Sixty Years.

Ira Gilmore died at his home in this village Sunday, December 10, at the 
advanced age of 86 years.  His last illness was of short duration, although he 
had been in feeble health for the past year.

Deceased was born in Warsaw, Wyoming county, N.Y., in March, 1824.  When but 
six years old his father died and he went to live with his grandparents.

About the year 1845 he came to Lyons and continued his residence here until his 
death, except for a year or so spent with one of his daughters in the west.  He 
was married to Miss A. Dart?, who died many years ago.  Four daughters were 
born to them – Mary Bennett, Millie Fortune, Emma Huss and Clara Trefry – all 
of whom are living in the West and at a distance too remote to allow them to be 
present at the funeral or during his illness.

Mr. Gilmore was a man of rugged honesty, and the record of his life is one of 
honor and integrity.  His simple, truthful faith in others somewhat saddened 
the latter years of his life.  He was a member of the Lyons Baptist Church for 
over fifty years and his Christian character is the best monument that can be 
given him.

The funeral was held Wednesday at the Baptist Church, being conducted by Rev. 
Mr. Branch of Ionia, assisted by Rev. Wm. Judd, who read an obituary of 
deceased.  The music was furnished by Messrs. Balch and Hale and Mesdames 
DeVore and Grant with Cora Henderson at the organ.  The remarks of Mr. Branch 
were especially fine.  He said the highest tribute that could be paid to 
deceased was that he was a Christian.  The pall-bearers were F. T. Gleason, A. 
S. Bunnell, A. Stryker and John Hale.
