Lake Odessa Wave, 17 Dec 1908

After an illness of nearly two years, Mrs. John Gilson died at her home 
Saturday at the age of fifty-seven years.  The funeral services were held in 
the Central Methodist church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. Charles 
Nease of Grand Rapids, a former pastor of the church officiating.  Burial was 
made in Lakeside cemetery.

Anna S. Ruff was born in Wood county, Ohio, September 28, 1851 and came to 
Michigan with her parents at the age of three years.  December 1, 1872 she was 
united in marriage to John L. Gilson to this union were born three children, 
Minnie E., Lee C. and Myrtle M., the last named died in 1880.  Mr. and Mrs. 
Gilson moved to Lake Odessa in 1888.  At the age of 12 Mrs. Gilson united with 
the Methodist church and has been an earnest follower all her life.  Twenty one 
years ago Mrs. Gilson suffered a stroke of paralysis from which she never fully 
recovered and about two years ago was taken sick with dropsy.  She has been a 
patient sufferer and in her quiet way won a host of friends who will mourn her 
loss.
