Ionia Daily Standard, 3 & 6 May 1910

Mrs. Catherine Girard died this morning at the home of her son, Charles, West
Washington street at the age of 67 years.  The funeral will be held probably
Thursday, but definite announcement will be made later.

The funeral service for Mrs. Catherine Girard was held yesterday afternoon, at
the residence of her son Charles, West Washington street, which has been her
home for many years.  There was a good attendance of neighbors and friends, and
the service by Rev. J. R. Niergarth, with seeing by Mrs. E. Smith and Mrs. H. E.
Spencer, was an appropriate tribute to a good woman whose life has been devoted
to duty and kindly deeds.  The bearers where Fred Young, A. A. Baxter, Chas.
Warden and Henry Gable.  Interment was in Oakhill Cemetery.

Her maiden name was Schaffer, and she was born in Carroll county, Ohio, Sept.15,
1843.  She had been a resident of Ionia 45 years.  She leaves one brother,
Joseph Schaffer of the city.  There were no other children except Charles.  One
other son died at the age of two years.  She had been sick nearly a year.
