Ionia County News, 25 Oct 1951

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Lyons Baptist church for 
Mrs. Raphaella Gladding, 74, who passed away Saturday night at the Ionia 
hospital where she had been taken following a stroke, which she suffered 
Tuesday, Oct. 16.  Mrs. Gladding was born April 26, 1877, the daughter of Mr. 
and Mrs. Nathaniel Hopkins, of Lyons township. 

She was married to Lemuel E. Gladding of Lyons township in 1894.  Mr. Gladding 
died in January, 1950.  They lived at various places and came to Lyons about 
twenty-seven years ago.

Mrs. Gladding is survived by seven sons, Rev. Earl Gladding, Elm Hall; Estel 
and Lemmie, R.1, Ionia; Howard, Chester, Paul and Leslie, Lyons; two daughters, 
Mrs. Mable Hutson, Mesa, Ariz., and Mrs. Helene Fell, Lyons; twenty-six 
grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

The services were conducted by Rev. Dwight Keller, pastor of the Nazarene 
church in Ionia, of which Mrs. Gladding was a member.  Rev. Earl Buffum of 
Lyons assisted.  The bearers were six nephews, Charles, John, James, Albert, 
Bert and Nathaniel Hopkins, all of Lyons.  Burial was in Fairplains cemetery.
