Burial will be at Clear Lake cemetery north of Ionia. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. Born in Fenwick, May 18, 1917 he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Pearl W. Gladding and founder and former operator of Saranac Brand Foods. He disposed of his business interests in 1964. He was married in Ohio, October 12, 1935 to Frances Krueger. Although a former resident of Ionia he moved to Saranac Community church. He was active in civic affairs and had served on the school board. Surviving are the wife, Frances; a son, Carl, and a daughter, Dianne Carpenter of Saranac; four brothers, Richard of Fenwick, William of Sheridan, Stanley of Greenville and Ferd of Big Rapids; three sisters, Carmen Christensen of Alma, Mrs. Helen Stowell of Palo and Mary Ellen McGowan of Greenville, and four children.
