Gladding, 56, died suddenly Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock at his home at 517 Pearl street, Lansing. He was born October 16, 1898 in Lyons township, the son of Lemuel and Rae Gladding and attended Shanty Plains and Lyons schools. June 26, 1926 he was married to Teresa Algaier in Evansville, Ind., and they owned and operated a variety store in Lyons for 10 years. Later he operated the Wolverine Roofing Company out of Ionia and moved to Lansing in 1952 where he was an automobile salesman. Surviving besides his wife, Teresa, are two sons, Harwood of Pontiac, Howard Jr., of Lansing; two daughters, Mrs. Carl Lindquist of Lansing and Judy at home; three grandchildren; six brothers, the Rev. Earl Gladding of Elm Hall, Leslie of Gladwin, Lemmie of Palo, Paul, Chester and Estel of Lyons; two sisters, Mrs. Elmus Hutson of Mesa, Arizona and Mrs. Levi Fell of Muir. The body reposes at Shaw-Rivett funeral home until Friday when it will be taken to the Lyons Baptist church for services at 2 o’clock with the Rev. Maurice Horn officiating. Interment will be at Shanty Plains cemetery.
