The community was shocked and saddened Sunday morning at the death of Mrs. Jennie Gleason, age 63. At the age of seven she moved with her parents, Walter J. and Mary Tabor, to Hubbardston. Her first school days were spent in the school of the village. She attended Albion college broadened by a lifetime of reading and study. In February, 1881, she was married to Dr. S. M. Gleason, with whom she lived in Sheridan, Greenville and Ionia, until his death, May 31, 1909. Since his death the life of Mrs. Gleason has been spent in this village with her mother, to whom she devoted her life, at the same time always interested in the activities and welfare of the community. Those of her family who survive her are her mother, Mrs. Mary Tabor, of this village, her daughter, Mrs. Irving J. Dodge, of Whitehall, Mich., and two grand-daughters, Lucy Janet and Elise Frances Dodge, of Whitehall. The sorrow of Mrs. Tabor at the death of her oldest daughter is touching. Mrs. Tabor, who is 89 years old, has buried seven children, and her wish that her one surviving daughter would live longer than she has been denied her. Hubbardston has lost a citizen whose place cannot easily be filled. Mrs. Gleason had the interest of the village and community foremost in all her thoughts. She was an active member of the O. E. S. post here. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/g/gleason13817nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 2.0 Kb
