Boy Victim of Bullet Clare Glick Accidentally Kills Himself in Trifling With Revolver Ionia county was saddened last Friday, especially in the vicinity of Boston township, when the news of the accidental death of Clare Glick son of Mr. and Mrs. George Glick who reside near Saranac, was spread over the country. Clare was only 15 years old and was a victim of self-infliction, not knowing that the old revolver which he was fussing was loaded. Last Friday morning, Mr. and Mrs. Glick had been at Lowell and upon return, which was about dinner time. Mrs. Glick asked Mrs. Richardson, an aunt, if she had called Clare for dinner and she said “no,” because she had been busy. Then the mother stepped to the door and called. Upon receiving no response she walked to the barn. As she entered the barn she found her only son lying dead. She says she believes he gasped twice as she bend over him. Dr. F.W. Braley of Saranac was called and was found that no inquest was necessary. The bullet went directly through the heart, at such close range that it did not even bleed. It had been raining last Friday morning and Clare had been at the home with Mr. and Mrs. James Richardson of Clarksville, who had been at the Glick home for a week. After the rain ceased, about 11 o’clock, Clare left the house, saying that he was going to the barn. The parents did not know there was a revolver on the place and do not know now whether the deadly weapon was one that he secured in a “boy trade” or one that had been under other things in the barn. It was old and rusty and it could be seen where he had taken a bolt to get a rusty bullet out and it was then it is believed the gun discharged. The funeral was held last Sunday afternoon. Rev. W.L. Halladay, pastor of the Saranac Congregational church, was in charge. Mrs. Blanche Barber and Miss Erma Cilley sang. Burial was made at the Saranac cemetery. Clare was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Glick. He was ambitious, smart and bright in every respect. He was a great help to his parents about the farm. He is survived by two younger sisters.
