William Wayne Godden, age 73, of Marion, formerly of Ionia, passed away on 
September 30, 2004.  He was born on June 29, 1931 in Sturgis, the son of Carlos 
LeRoy and Rosmond (Parham) Godden.

Mr. Godden was a veteran of the United States Army, and a member of the Ionia 
Moose Lodge.  William loved to travel, the outdoors and spending his winters in 
Arizona.  He also enjoyed airplanes.

Surviving are his daughter, Kathie (Craig) Simon of Portland; step-children, 
Clyde (girlfriend Lucretia) Brand of Harrison, Debra Sheppard of Battle Creek, 
and Brenda (Terry) Fancett of Harrison; granddaughter, Marion “Peanut” Simon; 
step-grandchildren, Michael, Bradley, Nick and Adam Brand, Jamie and Heather 
Fancett, Billie Jo Nielseon, Lezle, Lance and Dustin Kilbourn; five great-
grandchildren; siblings, Barb (Gerald) Gibson, Thomas (Judy) Godden, David 
(Jan) Godden, and Karen Martin; many nieces and nephews.  Preceding him in 
death were his parents; wife, Marion in 1978.

The funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Harger, Pastor of 
Shiloh Community Church, at 1 p.m. October 4, 2004 at the Schrauben-Lehman 
Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia.   Interment will take place in Easton 
Township Cemetery, Ionia.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home 
form 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.  At Bill’s request, you are asked to 
dress casual for the funeral.
