Mrs. Godfrey was born in New York and came to this city when still in her early youth. She was credited with having been the first teacher ever to be employed in this community, at the time the first school was started. She was the widow of Jeff Godfrey, well known Civil war veteran, who died in November, 1935. A month later, in December, an only son, Herbert, who had resided with his parents, was taken by death. A brother, George Sabin, long a resident here, died a number of years ago. There are no near relatives surviving. Funeral services are to be held this Thursday afternoon at 2:30, at the Fitzjohn funeral home, with Rev. H. E. Curch, formerly a pastor of the Belding Church of Christ, now of Mt. Pleasant, officiating and burial will be by the side of her husband and son in River Ridge cemetery.
