April 19, 1912 ONE OF THE FIRST RESIDENTS IS PROMOTED Conciencious life. Quiet but Persistent For The Right With the death of Mrs. Emma Goldring (as she was familiarly know in the Woman's Club and W.C.T.U.) Lake Odessa looses a woman who was thoroughly interested in all matters of public good as well as private life. She was true to her convictions, and always ready to do her part on any program. For several years her health was not the best but she never wavered but with mind alert kept abreast of the times, often suggesting some improvement in local affairs.Quiet and retiring in manner but persistent in effort her influence in her home and social affairs will pass on, an inspiration to others. She was a faithful member of theM.E.Church nearly since the organization of the church here. Always in attendance when health permitted, although she had trials she met them bravely and has now gone to her reward. Emma M.Roberts was born in Naples Ontario County,New York, Nov.12, 1864, and died at her home in this village Friday morning Apr. 12, 1912 at 7 a.m. She was married to Wm. Goldring in Chicago, Ill. Oct. 19, 1872; To them were born four children, two ons and two daughters, Walter, Carrie, Alice, and Francis Duane, the three first dying in infancy Duane remaining son is living in this village. She was converted at Bonanza school house in 1874 and united with the Methodist Episcopal church under ministry of the Rev. L.M. Garlick. For the first few years her health had not been good. By the advice of physicians, her husband accompanied her March 19th to Ann Arbor for an operation. During the operation the physicians found a maglignant type of cancer which had advance to such a stage that it was impossible to remove. But she rallied and was ;being prepared to be taken home, when on Tuesday the word came that she was much worse and Mr. Goldring immediately started reaching there, the same evening. She was delighted to see him and her only thought was to get home, and on Thursday at 9 o'clock accompanied by dr. V.M. Loomis she started for her home. She stood the journey well, very happy in the thought that she was going home before she was to leave her loved one's forever here. She knew the children and grandchildren and kissed them goodbye and was very happy, recognizing all who came. Gradually she sank away and at seven o'clock she peacefully breathed her last and her spirit went to her God. There remain besides her husband, one son, Duane; two grandchildren; two brothers, Frank D. Roberts of Woodland and Francis M.Roberts of Hastings; also a sister, Mrs. A.I. Newton of Hastings and a large company of friends to mourn her loss. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the M.E> Church. The sermon being preached by Rev. Thos. Laity, from the test found in 116 Psalm. 15 verse "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." The choir sang "Pass under the rod, "Beyond" and "Farewell Mother" and the burial was at Lakeside.
