Ionia Sentinel-Standard - Wed. Dec. 4, 1968

Alfred John Gonnella, Sr., 51, of 1564 Haynor road died early Wednesday at 
Butterworth hospital in Grand Rapids where he had been a patient the past 10 
days.

He was born July 19, 1917 in Ionia, the son of Peter and Ellen Kilgren 
Gonnella, and attended Ionia schools.

August 9, 1937 he was married to the former Maxine Randall at Elkhart, Ind., 
and they made their home in Ionia until 1942 when they moved to Ypsilanti where 
he was employed at Willow Run until entering the service in  1945.

He served with the paratroopers in Germany and after his discharge from the 
service returned to Ionia and worked for a short time for the Railroad Express 
and also at Gibson Refrigerator in Greenville.

In 1949 they moved to the present residence on Haynor road and he was employed 
at Fisher Body in Lansing until 1957 when he bought the Silver Dollar Bar in 
Ionia. He owned and operated the business until 1967 when it was sold and he 
went to work for the Ionia county road commission until he retired due to ill 
health the past year.

He was a member of the Moose lodge and charter member of the Ionia Hunting and 
Fishing club.

Besides his wife, Maxine, he leaves two sons, Gary and Alfred, II, both of 
Ionia, ___ grandchildren; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Gonnella of South Ionia; 
one brother, Armando of Running Springs, Calif. and one sister, Mrs. Edward 
Ingvartsen of Ionia.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 pm at Boynton Leddick funeral home with 
Rev. Robert McComb officiating. Interment will be at Easton cemetery.
