Knoll, October 10, 1906. Had she lived until the 28th of next January she would have been 83 years of age. She is survived by 8 children, 28 grandchildren and a brother in the state of New York. She became a Christian in early life, being a member of the Baptist church for a number of years and later identifying herself with the Presbyterians remaining a faithful Christian until the day of her death. The record of her life and the testimony of her friends will attest to the many sterling qualities of her character. Generous and forgiving she was quick to recognize the good and overlook the faults of those she came in contact with. Industrious to a fault her life has been one of toil and self denial. She was a great lover of the beautiful in nature, especially of flowers, by which, by the toil of her own hands, her home was always surrounded in the summer season. As a Christian parent it was the custom in her house to gather about the family altar each morning and throughout her declining years the Bible has been her daily companion and comfort. Of her we feel it may be said: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant; enter thou into the joys of the Lord.” The following biography of her life was written by the deceased about one year ago by the request of friends. “Mary Jane Butler was born in Springfield, Mass., January 28th, 1824, which was also the birthplace of her father. At the age of five years her parents moved to New York, town of Sangersfield, Oneida Co., and finally to Gloversville, Fulton Co. She was twice married. Her first husband was Daniel A. Creighton of Perth?, Fulton Co. By this union there were three sons James H., Chas. H. and Daniel E. and one daughter, Isabella, now Mrs. M.W. Knoll. By her second marriage – to John Goodemoot – there were two sons and three daughters – George and Russel and Mrs. Julia Waring, Mrs. Anna Ainsworth and Jessie, who died when a child. In one sense she was a daughter of the Revolution, her grandfather, George Allyn, served all through the Revolutionary war and her grandmother, whose maiden name was Sabra Case, was the granddaughter of Oliver Wolcott, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. The funeral was held at the Presbyterian church Sunday at 11 o’clock, Rev. A. A. Alverson of Romulus, Mich., officiated and the remains were laid at rest in the Baptist cemetery. All her children excepting Charles of Three Rivers, Mich., were present at the funeral.
