(DILLENBECK) (MRS. HOWARD): IONIA SENTINEL-STANDARD, MI, June 1, 1993: "Obituaries - SERENA E. GOODENOUGH - CHARLOTTE (MI) - Serena E. Goodenough, 76, of Vermontville, died May 28. Born in Odessa Township, she was the daughter of Orvie and Clara Steele Dillenbeck. She owned and operated the Sweet and How Good Cake and Candy Shop in Vermontville until ill health caused her to give up her home and business and she moved to her daughter's foster care home in Bellevue. She was a member of the Vermontville United Methodist Church, and was a member and past president of the Vermontville's Women's Club, a former 4-H leader, and was involved in other commmunity activities. She is survived by three daughters, Gwenith Lewis of Bellevue, Jackleen Hill of Lake George, Col., and Helen Swiger of Charlotte; a son, Larry Goodenough of Colorado Springs, Col.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; two sisters, Rose Barry of Hastings and Edna Brooks of Lake Odessa; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard in 1982 and a son, Louis, in 1986. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Pray Funeral Home, 401 West Seminary, Charlotte. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Lake Odessa. Memorials have been established for the Maple Valley Scholarship Fund and the Vermontville United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home."
