          DOUGLAS EDWARD GOODMAN

ROCKFORD- Doug Goodman, 70, of Rockford, IL, passed away on June 27, 2025 after 
a 38 month battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. He was born on June 20, 1955 
to Carl and Rita Hengesbach Goodman. A 1973 graduate of Ionia High School, he 
received his journalism degree from Ferris State University.

He began his journalism career at the Ionia Sentinel Standard back in the 1970s. 
He sharpened his writing skills at newspapers in Michigan, Colorado, Washington 
DC & finally  at the Rockford,IL Register Star.

Doug loved to travel, visiting all but two states (North Dakota & Rhode Island). 
He also traveled internationally with trips to Cuba,Brazil, England, Columbia, 
France, Italy & Central America. He and his wife, Judi, loved taking cruises, 
taking 25 since 2003.

Sports played a big role in his life too. Doug enjoyed distance running and 
basketball in his younger years.He played softball until age 63. After that, he 
started racing cars.On his birthday, he would bike his age in miles. Doug always 
loved the thrill of scuba diving, bungee jumping and sky diving.

Doug had been a loyal, lifelong Detroit Tiger fan, attending the World Series 
game in 2006. He also attended the Tiger's Fantasy Camps with the 1968 & 1984 
World Championship teams. There he met his boyhood hero, Al Kaline.

He is survived by his wife, Judi; stepdaughter, Diane (Kevin) Wagner; stepson 
David (Scott Thompson) Clark; step grandchildren Isaac & Kenzie; sister Barb
Goodman; brother Larry (Colleen)Goodman; nephew Jeff (Amy) Goodman; niece Lori 
(Brock) Lamphere & great nieces and nephews.
