Mr. John O. Goodrich removed here from Rochester, N.Y., in March last. Hopes were entertained that a change of climate would permanently improve the health of his wife, but the disease appeared to have been too deeply seated for successful treatment. Her decease was not wholly unexpected to herself, and occasionally she referred to her acceptance of Christ as her salvation and hope. She enjoyed the hearty esteem of numerous friends. An infant daughter, five months old, is left to partially fill the place made vacant in the heart and life of the afflicted husband and father. Mr. Goodrich has the deep sympathy of his many friends in Portland and vicinity. May a kindly Providence preserve the life of the little one and open the way for their continuance together. The funeral services were held at the residence of Mr. Geo. Atchley, and were conducted by Rev. Mr. Maile, pastor of the Congregational church.
