Nov. 16, 2013 Belding- Ray Goodsell, 87, of Belding, died early Thursday morning, Nov. 14, 2013, at Metron of Greenville. Ray was born on July 18, 1926, in St. Joseph, the son of Julius B. and Lillian C. (Mirrar) Goodsell. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Ray was a member of the VFW in Sheridan, had fun with games, trinkets, making puzzles and woodworking. He enjoyed flea markets, going to garage sales and liked wheeling and dealing in buying and selling things. Ray established the first trash removal service in Belding in the mid 1960's. Ray married Roberta J. Hammon on Nov. 11, 1946 in South Bend, Ind., and they just celebrated their 67th anniversary. Ray is loved and survived by his wife, Roberta and their children, John Goodsell of Atlanta, Ga., Becki and Jim Hansen of Greenville and Mike and Jan Goodsell of Grand Rapids; his daughters-in-law, Paula Goodsell of Greenville, Susie Goodsell of Atlanta; grandchildren, Brent Goodsell, Erin Greenop, Ben Goodsell, Brooke Ellsworth, Bradi Hackley, Scott Bartlett, Joe Nelson and Shelle Young' 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Francis Weigerink and Lucille Milliken. Ray was preceded by his parents and one son, Denny. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding with Pastor Steve Charnley of First United Methodist Church, Greenville officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home. Private committal prayers will take place at Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Memorials may be given to VanAndel Institute of Parkinson's Research or to Ionia Area Hospice. Messages of condolence may also be given at www.jffh.com.
