Goodwin, lifetime resident of Ionia county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jacob Moore, 145 Lafayette street at eleven o’clock, Saturday night October 19, He had been ill since July 27. Mr. Goodwin was born in Ronald township February 3, 1859. His parents died when he was eleven years old and he went to live with Oscar Talcott in Orange township. He attended M. A. C. in Lansing graduating from there in 187?. After graduation he taught school for a short time. On December 20, 1882 Mr. .Goodwin was united in marriage with Sophia U. Ferguson. Two years later in 1884 Mr. and Mrs. Goodwin moved to Orange township where they spent practically all of their married life, except for the four years 1898 to 1902 when Mr. Goodwin served as Ionia County Register of Deeds. Prominent in the affairs of the county and township he was also drain commissioner, Orange township clerk and supervisor for several terms. Surviving are his widow, the daughter, Mrs. Jacob Moore, at whose home he died; a son, O. I. Goodwin of Adrian, president of the Adrian National bank and secretary-treasurer of the Michigan Milk dealers association. He also leaves a brother, Andrew of Carson City, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral service was from Boynton Funeral home Tuesday afternoon, Rev. F. G. Dunbar of the Ionia Methodist church, conducted the service. Rev. Dunbar was assisted by Rev. A. T. Luther of Ionia and Rev. Ralph Bates of the LeValley church. Burial was in the mausoleum at Highland Park cemetery. Bearers were M. Clyde Stout, Fred Brickley, Lester Wolverton and Fred Krieger. Nearly 200 people attended the services. Among those who came from out-of town were Mr. and Mrs. O. I. Goodwin, Adrian; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Goodwin and son, Wyandotte; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Goodwin, Holland; Andrew Goodwin, Mr. and Mrs. Garlock, Carson City; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Lawrence, Mr. and Mrs. Emery Ferguson, Grand Rapids; Benjamin Carter, Mrs. Don Eddy, Lansing; Mrs. Orlo Elliott, Haflet; Mrs. Ray Fisher and Roy Fisher, Lake Orion; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Talcott, Keith Talcott, Saranac; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Higbee, Fred Klotz, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Nuinnely, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Adgate, Portland.
