When he was two years of age the family moved to Michigan. They stayed two weeks in Matherton and then moved to Hubbardston where there was more employment because of the sawmill. They lived in Hubbardston for two trying years, since the father suffered from malaria quite a part of the time and was able to work but 20 days one year. They next moved to a farm two miles south of the present site of Carson City. There was no Carson City at that time. The mother and the little four-year-old walked all the way to the new home. When Mr. Goolthrite was 21 the family moved to the farm near Hubbardston where his sister, Mrs. Lattimer, now lives. On Oct. 15, 1878 he was united in marriage with Emma Smith, who survives him. They began housekeeping on the farm which was their home for almost 67 years. They were the parents of two daughters, one of whom died in infancy. In 1918 he gave up the management of his farm, but has helped with repairs and other work as long as he was able. He was proud that he could care for the large family garden, and worked in it the day he was stricken with his last illness. He was very charitable and devoted to his church and community interests. He died shortly after noon on July 6. Besides his wife, he is survived by his son-in-law and daughter, Charles and Mabel Langdon; two granddaughters, Dorothy Yates of Midland and Louise Brown of Franklin, Ind., one great-grandchild, Susan Yates, his sister, Susan Lattimer, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Monday afternoon with the Rev. Park H. Newcombe in charge. Former pastors who assisted were F. N. Drake who delivered the sermon, and W. S. Phillips and C. E. Davis. Burial was in the West Side Cemetery. Card of Thanks: I wish to express my thanks for so many unusually beautiful baskets and bouquets of flowers sent to us by kind friends.
