She united with the Methodist church when fourteen years of age, promising the Master at the time of her conversion to speak a word for Jesus whenever opportunity offered—a promise faithfully kept as many will remember. She was married February 18, 1852 to Orrin Goolthrite. Three children were born to them, two of whom, Myron C. Goolthrite and Mrs. Susan Lattimer, are still living. One brother, O. C. Townsend, and one sister, Mrs. Amy Gage, with numerous more distant relatives also survive her. She was one of the pioneer women and through nearly her whole life, exceptionally strong and vigorous. Few were more helpful in church and community. All the care of her daughter and the kindness of friends as old age brought feeble steps and failing sight, could not equal what she had done for others. May many like her live to bless the world. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church in Hubbardston, Saturday, November 14th at 2 o’clock, conducted by Rev. H. V. Wade, assisted by Rev. E. C. Dixon, and interment made in the Hubbardston cemetery.
