Mrs. Sarah Gordon, aged 69 years and 1 month, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Harvey Russ in Saranac, January 31. Funeral services were conducted at the Russ home on February 2nd at 2 o’clock, the remains being temporarily placed in a retaining vault at Saranac, on account of the bad condition of the roads, final interment will be made in Easton cemetery. The deceased was a life long resident of Easton, a woman of sterling character, kindly and unassuming in all her actions and highly respected by her neighbors and all who knew her, she is survived by her husband and four sisters, Mrs. Osborn DeGraw, Miss Emily Conner, Mrs. Mary Russ, of Saranac and Mrs. J.G. Hicks of Belding, being children of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Conner, one of Easton townships pioneer settlers. During her last illness she was tenderly cared for by those who loved her, the summons to depart this life was a relief to her frail body after years of suffering. Opening to a good woman the entrance into that realm where sorrow and sickness cannot enter. Longfellow said, “There is no death what seems so is but transition from this life to the life Elysium, whose portal we called death.” She is not dead, the one of our affection, but gone on to that school where she no longer needs our poor protection, for Christ Himself doth rule.
