Tom Carter Gouge, age 66, of Ionia passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, August 
27, 2003 at his home.  Tom was born December 30, 1936 in Harriman, Tennessee, 
the son of John and Thelma (Carter) Gouge.  He would go on to marry Lynn Lynas 
on April 6, 1963 in Livonia.

Tom owned and operated Tom Carter Motor Sales in Ionia for 24 years before 
retiring in 2003.  He was an Army Veteran.  He was a former member of the 
Ionia Area Chamber of Commerce, Ionia Elks lodge and Ionia Rotary Club.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years Lynn Gouge of Ionia; daughters 
Dalemarie James of Long Lake and Kathleen Cares of Grand Rapids; brother 
Everett (Chessie) Gouge of California; sisters Karen Cooks of Saranac, Geneva 
(Mitchell) Chmura of Tennessee, Betty Ishan of Tennessee and Anna Sue of 
Georgia.

Memorial Services at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia.  
Visitation is 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. Anyone wishing may make memorial 
contributions to Ionia Area Hospice, the Ionia County Animal Shelter or the 
Safe Haven Animal Shelter in care of the funeral home.
