Ionia Sentinel - Thursday, May 3, 1900

Funeral For Mabel Gould.

Many sorrowing friends gathered at the home of Reuben Gould at 10 o'clock 
Friday morning, to attend the funeral services held for Miss Mabel Gould, whose 
untimely death was recently chronicled in the columns of the Sentinel. Rev. 
J.T. Oxtoby officiated and his eloquent remarks were appropriate and consoling 
to the family, left behind to mourn the loss of a dearly loved Christian 
daughter and sister. Touching hymns were sung by Mrs. Brock, Miss Tompkins and 
W.H. Moore, and the remains were carried to the grave in Highland Park cemetery 
by Elvert M. Davis, Montgomery Webster, Glenn L. Williams and Orin Stone. 
Beautiful flowers covered the casket, emblematic of the lovely character and 
sincere testimonials of true friendship, for deceased was a young lady loved by 
all. She was a member of the Presbyterian church, and an active worker in the 
Christian Endeavor society. She was 24 years of age, and her death was the 
culmination of a battle of many months against consumption.

Miss Mabel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Gould, who live north of the city, 
died Tuesday evening at 5 o'clock after a lingering illness of several months. 
She was a genuine social favorite among the young people of the city, a lovely 
young lady, whose early demise is one of great sadness. The funeral wil be held 
Friday.

Rev. J.W. Moore arrived yesterday morning, called by the illness of Mrs. 
Moore's sister, Miss Mabel Gould, who died Tuesday night.
