Mrs. James Granger Passed Away Last Friday Afternoon. Ellen M. Belding, daughter of Tiberus and Desire Belding, was born on the old homestead, two miles west of this city, on July 4, 1845, and died at her home in this city on June 12, 1903. She was married to James Granger on Sept. 8, 1867, who survives her. Besides her husband, she leaves four sons, Frank, Carl, Glenn and Lewis, and also one sister, Mrs. Annabell Morse, of Winona, Kansas, and three brothers, Wate Belding of this city, and T.B. and John Belding of Groton, South Dakota. One son and one daughter died in infancy. Mrs. Granger was a charter member of the following societies: Degree of Honor, Ladies of the Macabees, Woman’s Relief Corps, Lincoln Club, Otisco Cemetery Association, and the Mutual Improvement Club. She was a founder and past president of the Otisco Cemetery Association and to her efforts and untiring energy is due much of the prosperous condition of the association and the beauty of the grounds. She was an interested worker in all that helped to make life better and brighter. She was honest and straightforward in all her dealings, was ever kind and thoughtful for the welfare of others, always finding some excuse for the shortcomings of human kind. Those who knew her best knew her worth. Her life was one of sacrifice for others, but, uncomplaining, she sought the good of life and tried to live it well. A good wife, a loving mother and a kind friend has gone, and those who had the pleasure of her acquaintance will cherish her memory for the good she has done. Funeral services were held at her home on Front street, Monday, at 10 o’clock a.m., when a large number of relatives and friends assembled to pay their last respects to one whom the loved and esteemed. Mrs. Dr. Ferguson sang three solos and eulogies were spoken by Mrs. J.H. Dunham of Ionia and Mrs. Luella K. Webster of Belding, Interment in the Otisco cemetery.
