LAKE ODESSA, MI – 

Gerald Arthur (Jerry) Graul,, age 70, of Lake Odessa, passed away unexpectedly 
at his home on Thursday, November 3, 2011.

He was born October 4, 1941 in Ionia, the son of Arthur and Helen (Dausman) 
Graul. He graduated from Lake Odessa High School with the class of 1960.

He served in the Michigan National Guard as a Helicopter tech Inspector from 
1963 until 1969, receiving an Expert Badge with Rifle and Carbine bars. Jerry 
was employed by General Motors in Lansing from 1962 until his retirement in 
2004.The last few years Jerry enjoyed his part-time employment with Brinks 
Corp. driving the Brinks truck. He was an avid golfer and loved the history of 
the Civil War. 

Jerry married Doris Shoemaker on September 25, 1964 and lived in Lake Odessa. 
They raised two daughters, Terri Lynn (Terry) Newman and Tina (Dennis) Sauers 
and shared five grandchildren, Chelsea and Mackenzie Newman; Daniel, Kayla and 
Denny Sauers.

Jerry is also survived by his brother, Melvin (Beverly) Graul; sisters, Arlene 
(Lawrence) Barry and Luanne (Michael) Amrhein. He was preceded in death by his 
parents, Arthur and Helen Graul and father-in-law Clyde Shoemaker, Jr. 

As Jerry had wished, his body was donated to the Gift of Life with his remains 
being cremated. 

A memorial service was conducted on Monday, November 7, 2011 at Koops Funeral 
Chapel – Lake Odessa followed by a reception with the family. 

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lakewood 
Athletic Department at Lakewood High School or the Lakewood Educational 
Foundation at Union Bank in Lake Odessa.
