Gray, age 96, of Lake Odessa, went Home to be with his Lord early Saturday morning, November 25, 2006. Cecil was born on January 17, 1910 to Oscar and Bertha Grace (VanHouten) Gray. He was born in the same house in Sunfield Township in which he passed away. Cecil was a farmer in the same area in which he had lived all his life. He was married to Lilah McCrumb on June 14, 1933 and they shared 73 wonderful years together. Cecil worked hard to get the Farm Bureau established in Ionia County, and remained a member until his death. He was a devoted Christian and was saved as a young man. He attended the First Baptist Church of Sebewa, and later helped start the Lakewood Baptist Church. He had faithfully served as a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. In later years, he attended the Faith Bible Church on Woodland Road and spoke at many services at both churches. For many years, Cecil was a working member of the Child Evangelism Fellowship in Ionia. He had graduated from Woodland High School in 1927, and was inducted into the Michigan Farmers Hall of Fame in 1988. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Mable and Walter Furlong; granddaughter, Victoria Neff; son-in-laws, Gary Neff and Karl Nash; nephews, Kenneth Furlong and Danny Furlong; brother-in-law, Don McCrumb; and sister-in-law, Leatrice McCrumb. He is survived by his wife, Lilah; son, Douglas (Mazie) Gray; daughters, Alice Nash, Alma (Steve) Grinage, and Sandra (Charles) Syms; nine grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sister-in-law, Helen McCrumb; and many nephews and nieces. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at the Koops Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bruce Barker officiating. Burial was in Sunfield Cemetery.
