                                  OBITUARY

Mrs. Rachel Gray was born in Norfolk, England, September 13th, 1825 and died 
January 9th 1899, aged 73 years, 3 months, and 26 days.

She was married November 5th 1844, and removed to this country in 1851, living 
for six years in Orleans County,New York; then with her  husband and daughter 
she came to Marshall,Mich., living until 1859. The family next moved to Eaton 
County near the present site of Woodbury, but what was at that time little more 
than a wilderness.

Her life from this time was spent upon the farm except a short time spent in 
Vermontville, and the few years spent in this village. Mrs.Gray was the youngest 
of a family of  nine daughters four of whom survive her and unite with the 
members of her family to mourn her loss. She was a believer in the Lord Jesus 
Christ, a member of the Congregational Church; although for some time she has 
not been able to attend the services.We feel the precious ties of this 
connection at such a time as this and trust that our hearts may lean on him for 
help and hope of immortality.

The funeral services were held in the Congregational Church on Thursday morning, 
the sermon by the pastor, assisted by Rev. Ickes. The sermon was on immortality 
as revealed in the Holy Scriptures from the words of Christ in John, 14:2 "My 
father's house.' The singing rendered was very touching and in accord with the 
subject.She was buried in LakeSide cemetery directly after the services.
