The Portland Observer, Thursday, October 27, 1932

This community was saddened Monday when word was flashed around that Norton 
Green had died at the Will Lung cottage at Wall Lake, where he and Mrs. Green 
had been spending a couple of weeks with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. 
and Mrs. Lung.  Mr. and Mrs. Green went to Wall Lake a day or two before the 
hunting season opened.  At the time of leaving Portland Mr. Green was enjoying 
his usual health which continued up to last Sunday.  Saturday afternoon he 
went fishing with Mr. Lung.  Shortly after he arose Sunday he complained of 
feeling ill and retired to bed about 9 o’clock that evening.  A couple of 
hours later Mrs. Green heard him making a peculiar noise and attempted to 
arouse him but her efforts were in vain.  Medical assistance was summoned, but 
death had claimed another of Portland’s pioneers.

Mr. Green was born in Greenville 77 years ago and came to this vicinity with 
his parents when a small child, the family settling on a farm near Collins.  
Fifth-eight years ago he was united in marriage to Miss Louisa Randall, the 
couple residing on a farm north of town until 20 years ago when they moved to 
Portland, occupying a residence on the west side where funeral services were 
held Wednesday afternoon, in charge of Rev. E. A. Waldeck, pastor of the 
Baptist church of which Mr. Green was a member. 

Surviving are the widow and three children.  They are Mrs. Lillian May Rapp, 
of Portland; Mrs. Lung, of Kalamazoo, and Almer Green, of Lyons.
