The death toll among the older people of this section of Michigan has been 
rather large of late.  One after another of the sturdy characters, whose rugged 
youth helped to make the country of today are being called to their last rest.

Last Monday night Edward Alonzo Green, who for more than half a century has 
been interested in the growth of this portion of Michigan especially that 
portion in the vicinity of Smyrna, where the end came on Monday evening, 
November 20th.  Mr. Green had reached the rope old age of seventy-three years 
and in an early day was the proprietor of the Smyrna hotel, now the 
sanitarium.  An aged companion is left to mourn his departure.  The funeral was 
held at Smyrna this afternoon and the remains laid to rest in the cemetery of 
that place, close to the scenes where most of his life has been spent, he 
having come to Michigan from New York when only twelve years of age.
