H. Borden post G.A.R. have been diminished for death came to Andrew Green, 613 W. Washington Street, Friday afternoon at 5:50. Mr. Green was born near Rochester, NY, 1842 and had he lived until June would have celebrated his 85th birthday this year. When Mr. Green first came to Ionia his occupation was that of a blacksmith. He enlisted in Co. B. of the 16th Michigan Infantry August 1, 1861 and was mustered out at the close of the war, 1865. He is the last surviving member of a family of 9 children. Besides his widow is surviving a number of nieces and nephews residing in this vicinity." IONIA SENTINEL-STANDARD, MI, Tuesday, 3-8-1927 (Front page): "SEVEN CIVIL WAR VETERANS AT FUNERAL - Only these of 13 Remaining Members of Local Post can Attend Andrew Green Service - Andrew Green funeral service was held from the Church of Christ Monday afternoon at 2:00 by Rev. Hurrell and music was furnished by Mrs. Thane Benedict and Chandler Haight with Mrs. Ted Bloomer at the organ. The bearers were Bert Fleming, Horace Rowley, Oscar Brown and J. F. Huntley. Burial was at the family plot at Oak Hill cemetery. Only 7 of 13 veterans of the Wm. H. Borden post were present: Samuel Stowell, W. W. Crane, A. L. Willard, Wm Woods, S. Huliberger, George Pettingill and Samuel Kelly. Those from out of the city to attend services were: J. F. Huntley of Greenville, Mrs. Pettit, Mrs. O. Leppold, Mrs. M. F. Gahn, and Mrs. Harry Leonard of Detroit, Mrs. George Pye of Grand Rapids, Mr and Mrs Oscar Brown of Remus, and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Mason of Chadwick." 3-11-1927, p 8: "Card of Thanks - from Anna Green."
