The Belding News, Thursday, January 9, 1908


Elmer Green, for many years a resident of this city, committed suicide in 
Grand Rapids last Friday, by hanging himself to a gas pipe in the barn.  

About four years ago Mr. Green sold his house and lot on Pearl street to W. I. 
Benedict and removed to Greenville where he purchased a home.  Recently he 
sold his property in Greenville for $1,500 and removed to Grand Rapids where 
he engaged in the second-hand furniture business.  The failure of this 
business venture and despondency over financial troubles are believed to have 
caused him to commit the rash act.  He was a Woodman and carried a policy of 
$1,000.  

Besides the wife and two children he leaves a large circle of friends to mourn 
their loss.  His remains were brought here last Tuesday for interment in River 
Ridge cemetery.
